Earthlink Business OutageThursday, December 15, 2011

Earthlink Business, formerly One Communications, is experiencing an outage that has affected our area. We’ve had reports of several clients that are without Internet access and/or phones, and Avrem’s own office phone lines are down.

If you need assistance, please email support@avrem.com or call 330-881-5102. With the exception of our office phone service, we are fully functional at this time.

Something's Different Here...Saturday, September 3, 2011

Hello everyone and welcome to the new look of www.avrem.com! We're excited to unveil the latest version of our website and hope you find it easier to use and nicer to look at as well!

The first phase of the rollout has been completed, which replaces the bulk of our old design and content with the new stuff. Over the next twenty-four to forty-eight hours, we’ll finish off phase two, the final phase, which will clean up all the little odds and ends and make sure everything is properly functioning.

If you experience any problems with the site before Monday, September 5th, 2001, please be patient as it will likely be corrected soon enough.

Enjoy!

Frontier Communications OutageMonday, June 13, 2011

Windows UpdatesMonday, April 18, 2011

For anyone who owns a Windows-based computer, the second Tuesday of every month - known as "Patch Tuesday" - is an extremely important day.

On Patch Tuesday, Microsoft releases patches, fixes and upgrades for their operating system through their Microsoft Update program. You’ve probably heard us talk about it before – especially last summer when a number of updates took down Windows Server 2008 machines for a handful of our clients. This seems to be the case again as we’ve had tons of calls over the weekend regarding PCs with problems after installing Windows updates.

While the experience can be frustrating, we want our clients to know that it’s also very important their PCs are up-to-date with the latest patches and that the few rare occurrences where PCs have problems after updates are installed far outweigh the havoc brought by an unpatched PC.

Currently, we have reports of PCs that load with temporary profiles (you’ll see a message in the bottom right corner of the screen telling you so), settings and data are seemingly lost completely, PCs are running slow or take a long time to turn on or off and others have had issues running Internet Explorer. If you’ve experience problems this weekend after installing updates for XP, Vista or Windows 7 the side effects are reversible and your data is likely perfectly fine. The most important thing we can stress is not to try to fix the problem yourself. We’ll be able to get the fastest resolution to your problem if we have a clear history of what’s happened since the updates were installed and don’t have to sort through both the original problem and steps that were taken to fix it. Turn off the PC and call us immediately.

Spring is in the AirMonday, April 11, 2011

If the amazing weather yesterday was an indicator of what’s in store for us this summer, I say bring it on. There may be a few cold days left but it’s probably safe to say most of the winter weather is behind us, which means we can finally focus on summer activities.

Now is the perfect time to start installing cameras and running or trenching wire. If you’ve got a project in mind, give us a call.

Also look out for a few Avrem publications coming your way; specifically, our article on covering the top few tech items every business needs to succeed. Over the last 5 years I’ve seen a lot of businesses make the same mistakes about the same things over and over. Think of this as a way to cover all of the important points at once and get a really meaningful dialog going.

As always, if there’s anything we can do, just give us a call.
